Instead of immediately launching features, dedicate the first 4 weeks to building a deeper understanding of the product, company, and industry.

Here are the 8 things a PM should do in the first 30 days:

[1] Understand the company

➡ Business model, structure, key stakeholders/teams that you will be working with

[2] Connect with all other PMs

➡ Understand what each of them does, their processes, etc.

[3] Deep dive into industry and competitors

➡ Get familiarity with the industry terms, key competitors - what each of them has to offer

(this may not be relevant if you are joining a company from the same industry)

[4] Diagnose the product

➡ Do a detailed analysis of the product on your own - identify areas of improvement, opportunities, etc. Present it to the larger team and get their feedback

[5] Understand the sales process

➡ Connecting with the sales gives a deeper understanding of the downstream process

[6] Explore the key metrics tracked by the company

➡ Looking at the key metrics tracked will give you an idea about what matters to the company

[7] Connect formally/informally with users and get their feedback on the product

➡ Understand what users feel about the product and how they perceive it

[8] Talk to customer support team and explore complaints/feedback data

➡ This is the most ignored data source - it can provide you great deal of insights into customer feedback and problems
